Microsoft has recently changed their policy about selling older versions of SQL; they have removed SQL 2000 and 2005 from their price list. Resellers are now required to ship only SQL 2008. This decision is important for Relevant CRM customers using GoldMine with older SQL versions because FrontRange will no longer be able to ship SQL 2000 or 2005 licenses with the purchase of any additional seats of GoldMine.
To minimize the costs of these upgrades for FrontRange customers, we are passing along upgrade pricing at no margin for a limited time. If a user is upgrading to SQL 2008 Workgroup, the cost through April 29th, 2011 will be $50 per seat. The cost will then increase to $75 per seat through July 29th 2011 and after that it will be a list price of $100 per license.
If the user is upgrading to SQL 2008 Standard from SQL 2000 Standard, the cost through April 29th, 2011 will be $75 per seat. The cost will then increase to $100 per seat through July 29th 2011 and after that it will be a list price of $150 per license.
This cost is less that the retail cost of SQL in the retail market, and less than the $100 per license per year maintenance Microsoft would have charged for the past three years. Older versions of SQL can cause compatibility and stability problems, so it is a good time to take advantage of these specials to upgrade your SQL at a low cost.
Customers wanting to upgrade their GoldMine to Premium Edition will not need to purchase SQL 2008 separately, as it is currently included in the upgrade price. Any new GoldMine customer will automatically get SQL 2008. However, if you are purchasing additional licenses of GoldMine Corporate or Premium Edition, you will need to update to SQL 2008 if you are on a prior version. If you are purchasing additional licenses of GoldMine, the pricing for upgrading your existing SQL licenses is as given above.
